Unsurprisingly, Grapefruit demonstrates similar qualities found in Lemon and other citrus oils. Yet, although expressed citrus oils may cause photosensitivity (at least potentially), grapefruit is considered to be virtually non-phototoxic. Grapefruit makes a delightful aerosol or diffusor experience. The oil contains a trace constituent known as thioterpineol that is the most potent odorous chemical so far discovered by science.

Sweet Orange differs from the Seville or Bitter Orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara; C. vulgaris; C. bigaradia) that yields oils of Neroli (Orange Blossom), Petitgrain, and Bitter Orange. This variety includes such familiar tasty favorites as the Navel and Valencia, grown in Florida, California, and around the Mediterranean from where its distilled oil is most often produced. Although less effectual than the oils of Neroli or Mandarin, Sweet Orange shares with these other orange oils certain antispasmodic and hypotensive properties helpful in the treatment of palpitations, spasms, etc. It also shares similar mood enhancing qualities. Sweet Orange is mildly antibacterial and antiseptic. More notably a tonic and depurative, it works as well topically as a skin and body care toner and cleanser. It is readily administered in fragrances, spritzers, and diffusors.
The precise botanical identity of most commercial “Oregano oils” is always uncertain. Most are, in fact, not Origanum vulgare at all but instead either Origanum marjorana (Sweet Marjoram) or “Spanish” Oregano (Thymus capitatus). Some oils are erroneously labeled “Oregano leaf oil” or Origanum vulgare but are actually Marjoram or Thyme rather than true Oregano. Others are a mixture of Marjoram and Thyme sometimes with, sometimes without Oregano. Much of this confusion is understandable since Oregano, Marjoram, and Thyme are alike members of the same botanical family. Oregano oil possesses extraordinarily potent and broad purifying and antiseptic properties. Like other curative culinary herbs, Oregano has excellent digestive attributes but its powerful essential oil must be used very cautiously or under the supervision of a knowledgeable health practitioner. If used topically, correct dilution and proper application are most important because Oregano is strongly rubefacient and may cause skin irritation.
