Two chemical constituents, citronellal and geraniol, are largely responsible for Citronella’s unique citrus-floral odor. It is used mostly for commercial sprays, polishes, detergents, and repellents, whereby its disinfectant, deodorizing, and insecticidal properties are best utilized. When correctly blended in a lotion or aerosol, Citronella is a highly effective bug repellent against most all crawling and flying varieties. It is generally safe to use on or near horses, dogs, and other domestic animals or livestock, as it is for human use.
