The 2008 Sangiovese is a delightful medium bodied wine, fresh and earthy with soft tannins – yet ripe with flavor. The ruby red gem tones frame the ripe fruit flavors of cherries and plums with a hint of anise and black pepper through the finish. An excellent wine with many pasta dishes.
“Blood of Jupiter” is the translation of the word Sangiovese, although is seems to resonate something saintly to our ears as well. Sangiovese forms the basis of the classic Chianti wines from Tuscany and has recently made its home in California where its expressions are as varied as the landscape. Our 2008 vintage was visited by the blessing of botrytis cinerea, a phenomenom of late season river fog which concentrates the fruit and flavors. Jupiter likes to make surprise visits to us mortals in the guise of the lonely wayfarer in order to test our hospitality. So remember: Be kind and generous to strangers, and keep the cellar well stocked with Sangiovese.
